Giant (Joe Goliath)

Look at him, he's a giant
he wants to cast his shadow
across your land
He's a beast, don't deny it
He wants to bury freedom
in the sand
Look at him, he's defiant
he wants to shoot his arrow
at "the man"
Enemies, paper lions
We're going to cakewalk
through his promised land
It's for your own protection
some of your sons and daughters
have to die
But come the next election
we'll have someone new
to tell you why
And look at me, I made it
and I don't really care about anyone
I'm designed to fake it
that's how I got my castle
in the sun
In the sun, I'm a giant
look how I cast my shadow
across the land
Be like me, come on try it
but you'll have to build your castles
out of sand
Look at me, I'm a lion
and they're going to hear my roar
across the land
We are free, don't deny it
We were chosen by the son of man
Is this what we were born to?
Locked in freedom's cage until we rot
by moralist dictators, with their
one indoctrination under god
Pray to him, he'll save us
and he's going to bring us
to that promise land
Ignore the rich, they won't make it
their hearts will spark and burn up
in the sand
Come with me, Joe Goliath
we're going to march off to that
promise land
Never mind, if we don't find it
we're on a mission with our
fellow man
Hey, what if we found it?
the promise land
that we'd been looking for
but did not realize it
so we burned it down
and kicked in all it's doors
saying...
Look at me, I'm a giant
and I'm going to cast my shadow
across your land
We are free, defiant
and we're on a mission
from the son of man

Susie smiles, what's your sign?
I can read the stars for you
Sit high atop my stony roof
and whisper to the gods for you
Like winters pass
through the hourglass
I pick up my hat
and stroll back home
Alissa frowns, please sit down
let me read your palm for you
Spring shall bring a stranger around
I think he'll change your world for you
He'll write you poems
He'll sing you songs
He'll sleep with you
in your candle room
Jennifer cries, don't walk by
let me read your cards for you
The queen of cups is upside down
she's trying to get a message through
You move too swift
You change too quick
So please slow down
Just look around
this is your town
Mary laughs, please come back
I swear I'll read these runes for you
And I'll be glad to give your money back
if what I say does not come true
You'll meet this guy
with deep blue eyes
He'll make you smile
He'll read you mind
He'll keep your dime
So, come on smile, what's your sign
I can read the stars for you
Sit high atop my stony roof
and whisper to the gods for you
whisper to the gods for you
whisper to the gods for you
then stroll back home

Holly wont you leave a light in your window
to carry this pauper home
A beacon for a soul you cannot remember
who wanders the freezing cold
Half lit in shadow walk
dust blown through city park
to siren song
Rattle the cattle cage
break from the page of days
well read and torn
Holly don't you ever want to remember
the field where we used to meet?
It's frozen 'neath the bellowing of December
and hum of the city streets
I ride past the city lawns
the streetcars, the Audubon
the window stains
Reflection stares broken glass,
boys eyes in monster's mask
who's spirit fades
