Medicine Man 04:09
We don't want to pull away and we don't want to shut you out Seems our souls have finally found something they can't live without We are physical energy so we can't be everywhere We can't keep our minds at ease locked within your frozen stares And so we return back to the place where we learned we're better off living alone here in our own private home We can feel the days go by everything just blows away We can feel society trying to take the child away We don't need to compromise there's nothing that we really want And we don't want to close our eyes when everything just turns us on And so we return back to the place where we learned We're better off living alone We two and the medicine man and a lock upon my door We're sorry if you don't understand but we don't need you. No more. We're having the time of our lives all locked inside this room There's nothing we'd rather do than to lose ourselves in the bedroom shadows We two and the medicine man and a lock upon my door I'm sorry if you don't understand but I don't need anybody anymore. We two and the medicine man and a lock upon my door She's sorry if you don't understand but she don't need anybody anymore. Just me and the medicine man and a lock upon my door I'm sorry if you don't understand but I don't need anybody anymore.

Animal Boy (free) 03:22
Hey there animal boy walking through the streets like an accident You've got your headphones on And the world's got a crush on you. And you go out late to the bar, but none of these people even know who you are but if they did, they'd all be going home with you. But like you came, you're leaving alone down the blurry street that takes you back to your home there's a voice in your head saying "Something must be wrong with you." You get home, lay alone on your bed With criminal thoughts all swimming in your head You sit up.... then decide to go to sleep instead. And you're alone down here, you might as well swallow the fear It's an ugly little world You're alone, it's real, no matter how bad it feels It's the only thing we know. Hey there animal boy you've got a friend in Jesus but he only annoys, what some call love still sounds like a threat to me. Still you tell me all your sweet little lies that bring you comfort when you're drifting off to sleep at night And I wonder, if I should kick the crutch from you. And you're alone down here, you might as well swallow the fear It's an ugly little world. You're alone, it's real, no matter how bad it feels It's the only thing we know. Hey there Mr. Zoomorph, if you listen up close I'll tell you what you are here for To eat, shit, breed, then to die with the rest of the herd Still, you think you're better than everyone else because you've made a career out of lying to yourself And you believe it, but you really are the only one.

Melody 03:16
Meet me in the fields tonight underneath December skies we will wait for morning light And did you know, I wrote a poem for you It's written on the wind. And did you know, you touched my soul hang on, hang on to me close 'til morning light. I have seen your weary eyes drifting off in candle light I have laid down by your side And now I know, I have a song to sing A song for everyone And now I know, I've got my mind made up, oh, I want to take you everywhere. I had been alone for many years and there were times I thought the tears would never end (Lonely boy) I saw the clouds amongst the stars I felt the pain inside my heart, without a friend... I was lost. Then I heard a melody Floating across the fields to me Saw you walking 'neath the trees Then I awoke to find your morning eyes staring into mine. And we're alone, and everything's so right, so beautiful in this room tonight

Lester bring the light in here & shine it on the map I've got the pathways through the hemispheres all laid across my lap Lets navigate a way to penetrate electric fields White mantis colonies persisting through the paraenesis will Starboard floating, me & the Mantis People Millo Shanti, we are the forest people Mani bring my gyroscope & set it by my side we come through windows, walls & ceilings sprinkling moon dust in your eyes Your body it is sleeping but your spirit's over there swirling unconscious & transparent like a sickness in the air as we go floating, me & the Mantis People Millo Shanti, we are the forest people I am sitting silent my familiar with me It's trying to comfort us by saying we're in control of this machine The Maluse says we're floating high above the reeling earth as me & my familiar are floating in a hearse Starboard floating, me & the Mantis People Millo Shanti, we are the forest people

Friend 05:45
My brother is my friend we mix our magic potions we sit upon the roof and drink the sun away He marches through the fields he paints the family portrait there by the wagon wheel he falls asleep in clover And when our father died he sat down in the pantry He hung his head and cried until his eyes were empty My sister is my friend we walk through marshy meadows we reminisce and then she makes off with her shadow She has a yellow bike she rides it to the market Her son, he runs behind "Be quick, it's nearly Sabbath" We used to spin in fields until we'd both fall down with laughter I thought then to myself we made the world spin faster My mother is my friend she prays for me to Jesus I do not think he hears but still sometimes I say "amen" My daughter is my friend although I seldom see her Like me, she's very strange I'm glad she wears the family name I go back to my home a little shack on down the trail I blow each candle out and wait for sunlight coming My lover is my friend she gives me velvet midnight We walk off in the sun they say it's hard to find us

mandy build me a totem she's cutting out pictures of manta rays she stands up naked with a painted face She's into modern witchcraft she wears her hair like a hippie child she sits on the floor with eyes of fire and when she looks at you you feel her spirit burning through she sucks you into night then pushes you out the other side mandy's electric people she swears they all have tentacles and speak to her through animals they look a lot like Jesus except they all have funny grins and laugh when she takes her medicine and when she's feeling low she lays down naked on the floor she's hiding razor blades then checks the windows and the doors we have a secret garden right behind the silver dome where me and mandy sit alone she smashes all the toadstools she looks up laughing and she says to me our lives make real strange poetry now mandy's bleeding light her mouth fills up with foam she floats above the stars she's strung out all alone she's looking very stoned she's never coming home she's never coming home and that's what we want to say mandy gets blown away

Somebody cried, they cried, opening doors & letters I am alone, denied, somebody soon forgets you There in the world outside, you are a silent statue Distorted alone, in mind & nobody's there to catch you when you fall Winter comes on strong & presses against your window You are alone, in drones, with silence weighing on you crying I see you sitting in your empty room going through photos & opening all the wounds I saw you standing by that empty chair, where she'd sit & she'd stare and say I'll always be here for you. You lay down in your bed with that hollow in you then you feel a prisoner inside these walls alone Somebody cried, they cried, opening doors & letters I am a soul, denied & I've got to get a message to the world I've been consumed by shadows of this room tormented in limbo, a spiritual castaway And there's a universe outside that door I don't no what for but I think it's my enemy I wake up in my bed, 'neath the frozen windows I'll spend another day down here alone, alone, alone.

Crushed 03:02
I'm so afraid of her because when she comes around I'm just so dead to this world and I promised myself i wouldn't do this again because every time i end up crying I'm so ashamed to say but I feel so alone when you're not here with me when I see you I know I shouldn't look in your eyes it takes my breath away and every time I close my eyes I feel you by my side and I wanted to say that should you go away I think I would be crushed forever I'm so afraid of you because when you look at me it's all I can do to keep my soul to myself and not just fall into you I wonder if I did what would you do I'm so in love with you and it's hard to pretend when I know that it's true and I can't find the words so I just keep it inside I wonder if you see it in my eyes So I close my eyes and feel you by my side and I wanted to say that should you go away I think I would be crushed forevermore So I close my eyes and feel you by my side and I wanted to say, that should you go away I think I would be crushed forevermore

I walked alone today through dismal rains and misery haze alone ....alone On past graffiti walls half paralyzed down cold alleyways alone ...alone Strangers pass by on their way I'm walking alone in the rain On past the paper stand the coffee shops the cafes and bars I go ... I go I've got nowhere to be but far away from the shadows of home alone ....alone And nothing will get in my way I'm walking alone in the rain. Here in my overcoat I stop beneath the shop's overhang unknown ...unknown I watch the people in the stations waiting by the railways unknown...unknown I watch them get on to the train standing alone in the rain

I'm lost out in the stars, I'm all alone in the streets of the city I walk at night with strange eyes following me I'm floating through the crowds, paranoid that spacemen and angels are watching me and I can't wake up from the dream... I'm strung out in my room, I'm all junked up like the voices of angels the morphine throws blankets over the pain I'm frightened to be seen, I'm going clean so I lay in the black room for 7 days with candles torturing me... Satellites and twinkling stars are circling my bedroom wall and I can feel the curtain fall I'm sinking into grey Satellites and twinkling stars are circling my bedroom wall and I can feel the curtain fall I'm sinking into grey

about

"Damien Youth, often acting as a one-man band, writes and records material at a far more furious rate than many a multi-platinum act. Jinx is a double CD of 23 songs he cut at his home in 1998, between the albums Bride of the Asylum and Sunfield. Elizabeth Black sings background vocals on "Melody," but except for that it's just Damien Youth, handling not only the standard vocals, guitar, bass, and drum, but also organ, piano, flute, and trumpet. It's not up to the same level of the albums it bridges, but it, like all of his output, maintains a pretty consistent level and tone: British-styled folk-psych-rock, perhaps not easy enough to differentiate from his other albums to convince all but the converted, but an easy sell to the converted. If you're looking for mild departures from his norm, there's the early punk-styled buzz of "I Hate You" (which sounds like it could well be a satire of all that Sex Pistols-styled nihilism), or the more successful "One Eye Blind, Broken Finger & Ghost Girl," a pretty close match for Donovan in his "The Fat Angel" period. More typical is something like "Crushed," which is what Paul McCartney would sound like if he had decided to make "Blackbird" the base approach for his entire career." - Richie Unterberger
